Organization History

Jackson & Prochnau is dedicated to providing superior engineering, surveying and forest management services to the timber industry in the western United States. We have focused primarily on timber cruising and forestland inventory, which provides the basis of most forestry related tasks. Additionally, Jackson & Prochnau has a long history of timberland appraisal, management and forest engineering.

The company was originally founded in 1954 in Albany, Oregon where it was was initially known as Gibson, Jackson & Prochnau. James W. Prochnau became President in 1959 and managed the company over the next 40 years. In 1985 a second office was established in Olympia, Washington, where Scott McCullough currently serves as President. He is a Certified General Appraiser in Washington and Oregon. His partner, William Roach, manages the original office in Albany. Two separate operation bases has proven to be a most effective means of serving our clientele while maintaining a forestry staff that is able to accept and complete large projects.

Continuing education in the latest forestry techniques and applications is of primary importance. Recently J&P Foresters have received additional training from the Society of American Foresters Certified Forester (CF) program, Washington State Forest Practice Regulations (emergency rules training) and various appraisal related courses and seminars.

Jackson & Prochnau has completed many major timber inventory, appraisal, engineering, and management projects throughout the western United States. Projects have ranged everywhere from Alaska to Hawaii, and even in the Russian Far East and Siberia. Clients include forest product companies, investors, small private landowners, absentee owners, export trading companies, contractors, timberland insurers, financial institutions, and the legal profession and government agencies.
